The ancient way which runs from London to Lincoln, leaving the city through the 11c Bishopsgate. Another of a similar name, spelt 'Irmine', runs from Silchester to Gloucester. [< OldEngl. Earninga street = road of the Earningas, i.e. Earn's people] -
